AI for Furniture and Appliance Stores: Quote Fast and Close More Sales

Selling furniture and appliances has a quirk other industries do not: the ticket is high, the decision is slow, and almost nobody buys on their first visit. The customer walks in, looks around, asks the price of a sofa, gets the interest-free installment plan explained, asks about dimensions, says they will think about it, and leaves. From there, everything depends on whether someone follows up or not. And in most furniture stores, nobody does.

Why sales that were almost made get lost

The first reason is response time. Today, a lot of people do not even walk into the store to ask: they send a message. They ask if you have a certain refrigerator, how much it costs, whether there is financing, and whether you deliver to their neighborhood. That message lands on the store’s WhatsApp, which is usually answered by the same salesperson who is helping someone on the floor. They reply two hours later, by which point the customer has already asked the same thing at three other stores, and one of them answered in ten minutes.

The second reason is costlier. The person who came into the store, tried the mattress, asked for a quote, and said they would think about it becomes a sticky note or an entry in the salesperson’s phone. Nobody follows up with them again. In an industry where the decision cycle runs one to three weeks, not following up is the same as handing the sale to whoever does.

What can be handled automatically

  • Answer at any hour with prices, availability, dimensions, colors, and capacities for the models people ask about most.
  • Explain financing plans, down payment, requirements, and which documents to bring, without the customer having to come in and ask.
  • Give delivery costs and timelines by area, plus whether the service includes assembly or installation.
  • Put together a quote for several items and send it in writing, so the customer can compare it at home.
  • Follow up with anyone who got a quote and has not bought yet, with a reminder at the right moment instead of three months later.
  • Notify customers when a model they wanted, and that was out of stock, comes back in.

An AI agent loaded with your catalog, prices, and financing terms does exactly that, every day, at any hour. The floor salesperson stops answering messages while helping someone in person, and instead gets specific alerts: this customer already has their quote and wants to come see it Saturday.

In furniture and appliances, you do not lose the sale when the customer says they will think about it. You lose it in the ten days that follow, when nobody followed up.

Financing is the question that decides the sale

In this business, price matters, but what really decides is the payment plan. How much is the down payment, what does the monthly installment come out to, do they ask for proof of income, will they accept someone with no credit history. These are questions customers ask with a bit of embarrassment, and many never end up asking, because they do not want to be turned down in front of other people.

Being able to ask by message, calmly and without feeling judged, changes things a lot. The customer understands their options before arriving, and shows up already decided to buy instead of to find out. For the business, it means the customers standing at the counter are higher quality, because the ones who did not qualify already filtered themselves out without taking up anyone’s time.

Delivery is part of the product

Most complaints at furniture stores are not about the furniture: they are about the delivery. They said Tuesday and it arrived Thursday, nobody called, the customer took time off work for nothing. Each of those cases costs a bad review and a customer who never comes back, in a business where repeat purchases and referrals make up half of it.

Systematizing delivery notifications fixes this without hiring anyone: confirmation when scheduled, a reminder the day before, and an alert when the unit is on its way. It is the same information that today gets given over the phone when someone remembers, only now it always goes out, and on time.

How to know if it is worth it

Count how many quotes you gave last month and how many turned into a sale. If that figure is under thirty percent, the problem is almost never the price: it is the follow-up. Then check how many messages came in through WhatsApp and how long they took to get answered on average. With those two numbers in hand, the decision makes itself, because that is where you can see how many sales are slipping away over something that has nothing to do with your catalog.
